Wild lupins greeted us along the journey, usually white or purple but sometimes, in a riot of shades, as spring merged into summer.
 
A thrilling, spinning ride in Queenstown. Scary chair-lifts up Mt Ruapehu. And a precarious swingbridge over Buller's Gorge.
 
Cheeky dolphins, waddling penguins, sleeping seals, diving whales, up close and personal, out there in the wild.
 
A boat-ride in a dark cave, cruising on vintage steamship TSS Earnslaw, and an entrancing journey to Milford Sound.
